Pasadena, CA (June 06, 2019) – A Segment Support Assembly (SSA) “pre-build” meeting at the Coimbatore facility of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was successfully completed on May 22, 2019. The meeting was aimed at assessing the readiness of the L&T team to start manufacturing their first SSAs. Participants included India TMT Coordination Centre (ITCC) and the TMT Project Office team.
The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has issued a notice to proceed (NTP) to the University of Hawaii for the Thirty Meter Telescope on Maunakea. The NTP is a formal communication indicating that all pre-construction conditions and mitigation measures specifically required as a condition of the Conservation District Use Permit (CDUP) have been met. With the NTP, TMT can proceed with construction.
CILAS will develop the two large deformable mirrors for the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT).
The India TMT Optical Fabrication Facility (ITOFF), being constructed at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics campus in Hosakote, near Bengaluru, is rapidly approaching completion. The world-class optical facility was built by India-TMT as part of its contribution to the TMT partnership.

Beijing, China – On 19-21 December 2018, Thirty Meter Telescope China (TMT-China) Team held its science and technology annual assembly and TMT High Resolution Optical Spectrograph Instrument (HROS) Workshop at the headquarters of the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC).
The TMT International Observatory Board of Directors recently endorsed the recommendations made by the Science Advisory Committee (SAC), to select a slit-mask-based imaging spectrograph design for WFOS (Wide Field Optical Spectrograph), its second first-light instrument.
Pasadena, 5 October, 2018 - The TMT Observatory Executive Software (ESW) has passed a key milestone and is now ready to enter final design phase. An ESW Preliminary Design Review phase1 (PDR1) was held at the project office on September 27, 2018. ThoughtWorks, ITCC and TMT Engineers presented the overall Executive Software architecture and operations concepts, as well as their updated requirements and technical use cases.
