TIO's released its scientific vision for the future: the 2024 Detailed Science Case.
A science workshop called TMT eArly Career Centered, Engineers-Scientists Synergy (TMT–ACCESS) was held at TMT headquarters in Pasadena from 11 to 15 September. About 30 early career astronomers and engineers from Japan attended this workshop face-to-face, learned about TMT's capabilities and discussed TMT science cases.
Following the first Science webinar held in January 2023 and providing a status update of the Thirty-Meter-Telescope (TMT) project, the TMT Science Advisory Committee (SAC) and TMT project organized last month a second webinar, this time about the science instruments capabilities of TMT.
TMT staff interest in astronomy goes well beyond building one of the largest and most technology-advanced ground-based telescopes! Tomas Chylek, Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer, and Denis Zaytsev, Observatory Software QA Engineer, are also skilled amateur astronomers who spend endless nights capturing the beauty of our sky by setting up their telescopes and cameras within the darkest regions surrounding Los Angeles.

TMT’s Science Advisory Committee (SAC), which has been meeting bi-monthly since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, recently met to address the project status, its scientific potential and suitable instrumentation. The SAC is composed of representatives from each TMT partner who advise the Project on TMT’s design, strategies and operational matter that can have a significant impact on TMT science.
