A Japanese delegation recently visited the India TMT Optics Fabrication Facility (ITOFF) in Bengaluru, India, where they were introduced to the newly installed polishing equipment at the Indian site.
Exciting news out of India: TMT’s Primary Mirror Segment Polishing and Metrology Equipment have been successfully installed in the India-TMT Optics Fabrication Facility. The Stress Mirror Polishing machines and metrology tools involved in the production of TMT’s aspherical polished mirrors (aka roundels) were shipped to India to be installed and tested over several months.
TMT is deeply saddened by the passing of TMT Systems Engineer Hugh Thompson on May 7, 2021. Hugh was a colleague, good friend and inspiration to many of us who were fortunate to interact with him over his career.

Dr. Gary Sanders, who has led the TMT Project as Project Manager with distinction since its inception, will retire at the start of 2021.
Xiamen, China – 12 November, 2019 – The seventh Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) Science Forum was held for the first time in China, in the city of Xiamen, Province of Fujian, earlier this month.
