An important project for the global astronomy community, TMT is working collaboratively with the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) and the National Science Foundation’s (NSF’s) National Optical-Infrared Astronomy Research Laboratory (NOIRLab) to develop a U.S.-Extremely Large Telescope Program (US-ELTP).
Scientists recently attended the first joint TMT-GMT Science Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was held virtually to ensure the safety of all its members. The meeting was of historical importance, as it was the first of its kind to be commonly organized with the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) Science Advisory Committee.

On May 08 2019, the India TMT team presented the TMT pavilion at “Vigyan Samagam”, the first global science exhibition in Mumbai. A scaled, animated model of the Thirty Meter Telescope, a gallery of posters, and informational material have been created for public outreach.
Dr. Ravinder Bhatia, TMT Associate Project Manager, visited the Center for Astrophysics & Space Sciences (CASS) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). In Ravinder's astrophysics seminar, he presented an overview and status update of the TMT Project.
