On May 08 2019, the India TMT team presented the TMT pavilion at “Vigyan Samagam”, the first global science exhibition in Mumbai. A scaled, animated model of the Thirty Meter Telescope, a gallery of posters, and informational material have been created for public outreach.
The multi-venue mega science exhibition showcases India’s contribution to some of the biggest international collaborations on fundamental science and research.
TMT International Observatory is one of the seven major scientific projects supported by countries around the world. Also presented are the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Switzerland; the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO), Tamil Nadu; the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), Germany; the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a fusion reactor in France; the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatories (LIGO) in the US and in India; and the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), South Africa.
The traveling exhibition will tour in India for 11 months and will take place in four major cities: Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and New Delhi. It will show how TMT and other scientific projects will shed light on crucial questions related to the origin of the universe and its evolution.
