THINK Fund STEM Classroom Grants to Kona, Volcano, Laupahoehoe, Kau and Pahala Schools

The Hawaii Island New Knowledge (THINK) Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation, established by TMT, continues to support teachers in Hawaii Island schools to boost STEM learning for their students. Since the classroom grants became available in November 2014, over $84,000 has been given for projects reaching 6,594 students at 25 schools island-wide.

The Hawaii Supreme Court Ruling

On Wednesday, December 2, 2015, the Hawaii Supreme Court invalidated the Conservation District Use Permit issued by the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) to the University of Hawaii - Hilo to build TMT on Maunakea.

 [From University of Hawaii] - A letter from University of Hawai?i President David Lassner to Department of Land and Natural Resources Chair Suzanne Case confirms that the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project site is the last new area on the mountain where a telescope project will be contemplated or sought.

TMT to Conduct Site Preparation

A small crew of local workers will go to the Thirty Meter Telescope site this month to conduct site preparation activities, starting with equipment maintenance and repairs. An exact date has not been announced.
