TMT Segment-Handling Robot Receives National Award

A segment-handling robot developed in Japan for the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) has received the 2016 Good Design Award. The robot is a key technology in the world’s first Segment Handling System (SHS), designed to safely and efficiently replace numerous segment mirrors for the next generation's extremely large telescope to maintain perfectly reflective mirrors during TMT's operation.

Dynamic Structures is awarded $10 million contract award for final design phase of Thirty Meter Telescope Enclosure

Empire Industries Ltd. today announced that its Dynamic Structures division has been awarded a contract from Canadian Commercial Corporation for the final design and production readiness phases of the Thirty Meter Telescope enclosure. The contract is valued at approximately $10 million, and is expected to be completed over the next 20 months.

Latest Poll on Hawaii Island Shows 2-1 Margin in Support for TMT Construction

The results of a new scientific poll show Hawaii Island residents support the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. The public opinion poll conducted in July 2016 by Ward Research, Inc. shows that 60 percent of Big Island residents support moving ahead with construction of the TMT project, with 31 percent opposed.

THINK Fund at Pauahi Foundation Awards $194,000 in Scholarships to Hawaii Island Students

Eleven outstanding students from Hawaii Island have been awarded scholarships totaling $194,000 by the THINK Fund at Pauahi Foundation. The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) launched THINK (The Hawaii Island New Knowledge) Fund in 2014 to better prepare Hawaii Island students to master STEM and to become the workforce for higher paying science and technology jobs in Hawaii’s 21st century economy.

Thirty Students Named To Akamai Summer Internship Program
