The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) presented its first in-person Exploring Your Universe (EYU) science fair in three years on November 6, 2022. About 12,000 visitors of all ages and backgrounds came to UCLA from the greater LA community.
AstroDay 2022, led by the University of Hawai‘i’s Institute for Astronomy (IfA), is dedicated to sharing the amazing science of astronomy and the incredible discoveries made by telescopes throughout the state of Hawaiʻi. The IfA brought together the Maunakea Observatories and various other organizations for a fun filled day engaging ʻohana in Kailua-Kona.
As part of its ongoing outreach and educational activities, TMT participated in the annual Science Festival of Eliot Arts Magnet School on Saturday, April 23rd. The event provided a unique opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, robotics, health, and environmental activities taking place in Pasadena.
Journey Through the Universe (Journey), one of the leading astronomy education and outreach programs on Hawaiʻi Island, recently brought together students and teachers with astronomers, engineers and STEM professionals.
TMT was pleased to join the Maunakea Observatories in celebrating AstroDay on November 14, 2021 at Kona Commons Shopping Center in Kona. AstroDay continues to be a leading community outreach program for the observatories. This time around, the AstroDay celebration event was back “in-person,” with its share of free, family-friendly astronomy activities.
Unfortunately, thousands of students across Hawaii will be out of school for the next several months due to the coronavirus crisis. With parents taking on a larger teaching role to make sure their kids continue to learn and grow while sequestered at home, the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Hilo-based Hawaii Science and Technology Museum to fund its innovative online STEM learning program.
TMT participated in the 3rd and biggest Annual Science Night of Eliot Arts Magnet Academy on Friday January 24th.
Presenting students the long voyage of the NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, Dr Ravinder Bhatia, TMT Project Manager Associate, talked about Saturn’s exploration and gave an outreach presentation on "Saturn's Rings and Moons" at Sierra Madre Elementary School on January 15, 2020.
The Hawaii Island New Knowledge (THINK) Fund was launched in 2014 to improve educational opportunities for Hawaii Island students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines.
Last week, a group of aspiring young astronauts went through a simulation of a space mission, looking for signs of extraterrestrial life in our Solar System. The children acted out a script based on NASA/JPL's deployment of the Curiosity Rover on Mars, and also the movie "Europa Report" for the landing on Europa.
