TMT celebrates Ellison Onizuka Day at Hawai'i Keiki Museum
TMT International Observatory, alongside the Maunakea Observatories 'ohana, celebrated Ellison Onizuka Day at Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum on Sunday 28 January 2024. This special occasion was dedicated to honoring Hawaiʻi's first astronaut, Ellison Onizuka, through engaging STEM activities designed for keiki. Originating from Kealakekua on the Big Island, Ellison was not only an Eagle Scout but also a true explorer at heart.
A particularly touching moment occurred when members of the Boy Scouts from Ellison's troop proudly carried his old flag. This poignant tribute served to preserve his legacy, emphasizing his profound passion for exploration.
