TMT International Observatory team participated in the Exploring Your Universe event at the UCLA campus, Sunday 5 November 2023. More than 9,000 people attended this year's annual STEM outreach event organized to share knowledge and hands-on experiences with attendees.
Scientists and engineers from TMT, supported by communication and other TMT staff answered questions about TMT's design, how its primary mirror will be controlled to produce optimal image quality, and the science questions TMT will address. In addition to seeing a real-size prototype of a mirror segment actuator, TMT booth visitors also visualized how TMT will work by looking at a detailed 3D model of the observatory and immersed themselves in a virtual-reality experience.
