TMT’s APS includes all the necessary hardware, software, and interfaces to the Telescope Control System and M1, M2, and M3 control systems required to accomplish precise alignment of all TMT’s mirrors. The APS will have the capability to phase the 492 M1 segments so they behave as one unique single mirror of 30 meters in diameter.

In March 2023, five TMT Segment Support Assemblies (SSA) were completed in Coimbatore, India, by the Larsen and Toubro (L&T) company. An international panel of reviewers from MELCO-NAOJ-TIO, outside the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) facility in Amagasaki, Japan, met for important production readiness reviews for the TMT’s Structure. The reviews were attended by leading scientists and engineers from both continents, on February 16 and 17, 2023 (JST).
On February 6 2023, TMT had the pleasure to welcome Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan, the Indian Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington DC to its Project Office and technical lab. in California. During her visit, she met with Bob Kirshner, Executive Director of TIO, and several TMT scientists to discuss the important scientific and technological cooperation between TMT partners in India and the United States.
